The Georgia Board of Dentistry reminds all licensed dentists that they are responsible for ensuring that any dental hygienist practicing under their authorization holds a current, active Georgia dental hygiene license.

Before permitting a dental hygienist to provide patient care, dentists are responsible for verification of a hygienist's license status using the Board's online License Verification system. Dentists should also periodically verify the license status of all dental hygienists employed in their practice, particularly following license renewal periods or whenever there is uncertainty regarding a license's status.

Dentists shall exercise due diligence in verifying the practicable licensure status of the dental hygienists they supervise. Failure to do so shall subject the authorizing dentist to disciplinary action.

The Board encourages all dentists to establish office procedures to routinely verify the licensure status of all licensed personnel to ensure continued compliance with Georgia law and Board rules.
