IMPORTANT: 2021 New Graduate Temporary Licensure Guidelines and Requirements for Dentists and Dental Hygienists

Executive Order 08.15.20.01 authorizes the Board of Dentistry to issue temporary dentist and dental hygienist licenses to new 2021 graduates meeting criteria set by the Board.

Temporary Continuing Education Policy for 2020-2021

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the Board of Dentistry has elected to adopt this temporary continuing education policy for the 2020-2 021 biennium only.  Board Rules 150-3-.09 and 150-5-.05 still apply, however, in lieu of the 50% of credit hours that are required to be "in person at an on-site course or seminar," the Board will accept "live, instructor-led virtual courses or seminars."

Please be aware that pre-recorded courses, replay courses, and courses classified as self-instruction do not qualify as live, instructor-led virtual courses or seminars and will not be accepted for the credit hours required to be on-site.

UPDATE: A webinar style pre-recorded course that is offered at a designated time (not at the participants' leisure) with the speaker on live to engage in conversation and Q&A, will be considered for live credit if the certificate of completion states that the webinar contained both live and pre-recorded portions and the speaker attests that he/she was on the webinar live for the entire course.

UPDATE: The Board continues to require CPR certification and re-certification be completed in-person, with no exceptions. - Posted 03/04/21

Board Opinion on COVID-19 Testing

At the November 6, 2020 Board of Dentistry meeting, the Board discussed dentists, as healthcare practitioners, performing COVID-19 testing in office.  The Board is of the opinion that COVID-19 testing does fall within the scope of practice for a dentist.

NOTICE: COVID-19 - TEMPORARY USE OF TELEHEALTH SERVICES

The Georgia Board of Dentistry recognizes the unprecedented and extraordinary circumstances dentists and their patients face during this National Emergency. Our desires are to mitigate transmission of the COVID-19 virus while also supporting care for patients so as to help prevent overwhelming hospital emergency departments through the lifting of the Governor's Public Health State of Emergency.  Under these circumstances, the Board recognizes that patients may be best served when telecommunication technology can be leveraged to support dental care.
