Georgia Board of Dentistry Emergency Rule: Regional Examinations for Dentists

In response to the current state of emergency as declared by the Governor, the Georgia Board of Dentistry has adopted an emergency rule temporarily allowing dental license applicants to submit results from CRDTS or ADEX manikin-based examinations taken on or after January 1, 2021. This rule will be effective for the duration of the emergency and for a period of not more than 120 days thereafter.

Temporary Continuing Education Policy Extended for 2022-2023

Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, the Board of Dentistry has elected to extend the temporary continuing education policy for the 2022-2023 biennium.  Board Rules 150-3-.09 and 150-5-.05 still apply, however, in lieu of the 50% of credit hours that are required to be "in person at an on-site course or seminar," the Board will accept "live, instructor-led virtual courses or seminars."

CPR certification and re-certification must be completed in-person, with no exceptions.

Please be aware that pre-recorded courses, replay courses, and courses classified as self-instruction do not qualify as live, instructor-led virtual courses or seminars and will not be accepted for the credit hours required to be on-site.

A webinar style pre-recorded course that is offered at a designated time (not at the participants' leisure) with the speaker on live to engage in conversation and Q&A, will be considered for live credit if the certificate of completion states that the webinar contained both live and pre-recorded portions and the speaker attests that he/she was on the webinar live for the entire course.

Active-Renewal Pending Status

A number of licenses issued by the Georgia Board of Dentistry ("Board") expire as of December 31, 2021, including all dentist and dental hygiene licenses. If a licensee has submitted a timely and sufficient renewal application by December 31, 2021, his/her license may be placed on "active-renewal pending" status. "Active-renewal pending" status does not mean that the registration has lapsed, is inactive, is deficient, or invalid. Rather, "active-renewal pending" status merely reflects that the licensee has submitted a timely and sufficient renewal application. Under O.C.G.A.§50-13-18(b), the license of a licensee who has made a timely and sufficient renewal application does not expire until the Board has reviewed and made a determination on the application, even if the date of that determination is after the expiration date. A licensee should save the receipt generated after submission of a timely and sufficient application as additional proof of renewal during the period in which the application is reviewed.
